Sushi California is a good spot to get sushi in Newington. The atmosphere and service is perfect for a calm night out. They have a good variety of food in general, and they have much to offer when it comes to sushi. They also have good seafood at an affordable price. Our favorite sushi roll that they offer is the Spicy Girl Roll. A specialty roll that is loaded with fresh fish including Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. It is topped with Tobiko as well as spicy mayo which perfectly complement the fish on the roll. We also recommend that you try the tuna tar-tar. Chunks of Tuna marinated in a Korean style spicy sauce combines the sweet flavor of uncooked tuna with the spicy flavor of the sauce creating the perfect mixture in your mouth. 9. Pho Viet
Pho Viet is is apart of the expanding new trend across the region. In case you are unfamiliar with Pho, it is a Vietnamese broth based soup that has a plethora of spices and herbs to achieve a flavor you have likely never tasted. Rice noodles come in the soup as well as your choice of meat, seafood and/or vegetables. Everything is slow cooked to perfection and it takes about 12 hours to make the broth. Pho Viet is no different, offering many options outside of Pho also. Our favorite dish is the Pho beef, which is loaded with rare cooked steak. We also recommend that you try the Shrimp Summer Roll, which comes with a magnificent peanut sauce. 8. Italian Gourmet Deli
While this place isn’t technically a restaurant it is one of the best places to eat in Newington. They have a wide variety of mainly Italian food, as well as a great selection of pastries and breads. The bread is actually cooked homemade on site so you always know you that it will be fresh. They give great portions with all of their foods, but if you order one of their grinders it will likely last you two meals. In fact, that is exactly what we recommend you order, a chicken cutlet BLT on a grinder. This sandwich is stuffed to the brim with chicken cutlet and bacon, what more could you ask for? 7. Mykonos Mediterranean Grill
Mediterranean food is often underrated, especially since it is less common than other restaurant styles. However, if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone then you can find some really great food. Mykonos has a very unique menu that is likely going to bring you into a whole new world of flavor. The restaurant itself is beautiful and they have more than enough room outside to fit most parties. They do a great job of making you feel like you are actually on the streets of Greece with the design of their restaurant. The dish that we recommend is the Mussel Kopanisto, which consists of mussels sauteed with feta, roasted tomato, garlic with a little hint of spice. The dish has great flavor and is the perfect appetizer to split with a few friends. We also think that you should try the grilled Octopus. Tender and soft on the inside and grilled to perfection on the outside, this dish is definitely out of most folks comfort zone. However we promise that you will not be disappointed in trying it. 6. Sloppy Waffle
The Sloppy Waffle is in a category of it’s own compared to the other restaurants on this list. They pride themselves on using as little processed food as they can, which means their food is of good quality. Their menu is also very unique, chances are you will not find a menu like it in the nearby vicinity. The Sloppy Waffle is known for piling their delicious waffles with anything from fresh fruits to peanut butter and jelly. They also have magnificent crepes as well as other breakfast foods including eggs. Our favorite dish is the Apple Cobbler Liege Waffle, which is loaded with warm apple compote, whipped cream, cinnamon brown sugar, and topped with powdered sugar and maple syrup. We also recommend that you try the Very Berry Crepe which is stuffed with whipped cream, blueberries, strawberries and bananas, topped with maple syrup and graham crackers. Goldburgers is our recommended spot for burgers in Newington. They have great prices for the portions that they have to offer, and a great variety of food in addition. Along with burgers, they also offer fries, onion rings, hot dogs, and mac and cheese bites. Their burgers are flavorful and original as they have some options that are not like your conventional burger. Either way the different flavor injections pair well on every burger creating a flavor in your mouth that will leave you satisfied for hours to come. Our favorite burger that they have is the Twice Roasted Burger. The burger is loaded with bacon, provolone, roasted red peppers and garlic. The unconventional combination meshes together perfectly to create a fantastic flavor. We also recommend that you try their mac and cheese bites. 4. Ruth’s Chris
The only draw back to Ruth’s Chris is that it is expensive. However, if you’ve ever eaten here you know for sure that it is worth the price you pay. Everything is cooked to perfection and the chefs ensure that you are completely satisfied with your meal. Ruth’s Chris offers top of the line steaks as well as phenomenal sides and appetizers. They do have a happy hour where they have cheaper appetizers as well as lower priced drinks. We recommend getting the Filet Mignon, as it is extremely juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. We also think that the seared Ahi Tuna is a must try! Warm and grilled on the outside and soft and cool on the inside, it almost melts in your mouth like butter! 3. Joey Garlic’s
Joey Garlic’s is another great place to eat in Newington. They recently did an awesome job renovating their restaurant to make it look even better. The style of food is Italian, but they also have some interesting combinations that are not necessarily traditional Italian food. Another great perk about Joey Garlic’s is that their portions are huge! You definitely will have a midnight snack left over if you decide to eat your dinner at Joey Garlic’s. Our recommended dish is the Crazy Alfredo. A pasta dish with Alfredo sauce loaded with chicken, sausage, salami, cayenne, and roasted pepper. The dish has just enough spice in it to keep things interesting and is definitely one of the top dishes at the restaurant. We also recommend that you try the Pizza a La Carbonara. A white pizza topped with sausage, bacon, caramelized onion, and cheese. The sweet flavor from the caramelized onion perfectly combines with the salty flavor from the bacon and sausage. 2. Rooster Co.
Rooster Co. has a unique menu that uses sophisticated ingredients to produce great food. They are a slightly upscale restaurant that is well priced compared to the food they are serving. Despite their fancy ingredients and elegant foods, they have managed to keep the experience rather casual, making it a great place to eat with friends, a significant other, or your family. They have a nice outdoor dining section that is perfect for brunch, and a nice bar area that makes Rooster Co. a must-go for happy hour! Our favorite dish was the Truffle Risotto, which was absolutely mouth watering. As if Risotto wasn’t already good enough the addition of the truffles gives it just enough flavor to set this dish in a class of its own. We also recommend that you try the Horseradish Crusted Salmon. The perfect mixture of salty and spice in the horseradish makes this entree another great option. 1. Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is what we consider to be the best restaurant in Newington. Whether it is the huge portions, the authentic taste, wide variety of food options, or the margaritas, Puerto Vallarta checks off everything on our list to make a great restaurant. They have great service with very friendly waitstaff that even bring you a free shot of Horchata mixed with Fireball! Their menu has any kind of Mexican food that you can think of, whether it be enchiladas, chimichangas, burritos, tacos, seafood, or nachos Puerto Vallarta makes sure that you have a heaping serving on your plate. You will definitely have left overs from eating here. Our favorite meal is the Chimichanga, which is loaded with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and tomato on the top, and your choice of meat and cheese on the inside. The burrito is then rolled up and deep friend until it is crispy. We also recommend that you try the nachos. An absolute monstrosity of a plate, topped with chips, your choice of meat, cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.
